Here is the book description that will be on the book jacket:
Louder Than the Lies: Asian American Identity, Solidarity, and Self-Love by Ellie Yang Camp (Heyday Books, 2024)
A primer on racism that offers an intersectional, anti-racist, coalition-building view of Asian American identity.
What does it mean to be Asian American? How does our racialization in the United States shape our lives and our worldviews? With candor and care, Ellie Yang Camp, a Taiwanese American educator, offers a set of ideas and frameworks to guide us toward a more nuanced understanding of these questions. Drawing on her experiences and observations from history, conversations with Asian American peers, and lessons derived from other people of color, Camp unpacks the confusing dynamics that underlie anti-Asian stigmas and stereotypes in the US. From the model minority myth to yellowface to anti-Blackness among Asian communities, Camp presses into hard questions and moments of discomfort, naming fears so that we might dispel them. Key stories of resistance reveal the importance of solidarity, both among the diverse people under the Asian American umbrella and with all who are exploited by white supremacy. Acknowledging that racism is a system thrust upon us to control us, Camp fuels our boldness to challenge tropes, dismantle prejudices, and embrace self-determination as an act of radical liberation.

Why pre-order?
Pre-orders can play a big role in how many copies publishers decide to print & can impact how much money goes into marketing the book. Unfortunately, we still live in a world where authors with marginalized identities are still seen as “too niche” or “less marketable” by the profoundly white publishing industry, and often receive smaller marketing budgets and experience difficulty in getting their books properly marketed to the audiences they represent. Pre-orders can help create buzz and signal to bookstores to carry more copies. So if you think you’ll buy a copy when the book comes out anyway, doing it as a pre-order is like adding a free bonus gift for the author as well as the overall viability of Asian American books in publishing.
How do pre-orders work?
You order the book now, and on publication day (October 22nd) the bookstore will have it ready for you! Not all bookstores carry copies of all books, so pre-ordering is a great way to guarantee that they’ll have a copy available when the book comes out. Many can ship it directly to you.
Where to pre-order?
Please consider pre-ordering your copy from your local, independent bookstore if they offer it. Here are some Asian American-owned bookstores that offer online pre-ordering through Bookshop.org:
Asian American Curriculum Project (San Mateo, CA)
Bel Canto Books (Long Beach, CA)
Mam’s Books (Seattle, WA)
Yu & Me Books (New York, NY)
Here are links to my local Bay Area independent bookstores that offer pre-orders online:

Ellie, how else can I help support your book?
I’m so glad you asked! Please share about the book with people you know! Word-of-mouth is still the most effective way people hear about books they want to read and helps boost book popularity and demand. Since I opted to publish with an awesome independent, nonprofit publisher (not one of the Big Five) who I felt understood the vision of my book, wouldn’t try to censor me, or water down my firm commitment to centering Asian American readers, I accepted a modest advance and I will be paying for most of my own marketing out-of-pocket. These are monetary choices I made because I did not want to compromise the voice or values of my book. All that said, feel free to help a girl out by sharing about the book with whoever you know!
I cannot wait to get this book into your hands. As the publication date gets closer, I’ll let you know other simple ways you can help support the book’s success. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
